All teachers in DUSD are eligible to sign up for any of these classes. Fill out the form on the right side of this page to sign up!

Being a More Effective Teacher -- Tuesdays, 4:30 - 6:00 -- Instructed by: Dr. Martin Von Drake

Nobody really knows how to be a teacher.  Dr. Von Drake doesn't know either, but what he does know is that he can help a little bit!  Dr. Von Drake has been teaching this class on teacher effectiveness for five years and has drawn rave reviews and a cult following.  This class will focus on cutting-edge teaching techniques based on the latest in child psychology and related fields.  Dr. Von Drake guarantees that you will leave his class with new ideas on how to be a better teacher.

Handling Stress Safely -- Wednesdays, 4:30 - 6:00 -- Instructed by: Mrs. Flora Gretelbaum

One part masseuse, one part hypnotherapist, one part miracle worker! Mrs. Gretelbaum has been in the business of helping people deal with the rigors of everyday life for as long as she can remember -- well, ever since she stopped teacher, anyway! Don't worry, this isn't a massage appointment -- Flora will be teaching you how to organize your life, remember your priorities, and how to chill the heck out when things start to get crazy! Limited space available.

Real Talk: Bullies in the Educational Space -- Mondays, 5:30 - 6:30 -- Instructed by: Dr. Jessica Eggeltort

Don't let bullies take your classroom hostage!  Dr. Eggeltort will help you know how to react when one of your students is acting out and bullying your other students.  Your classroom should be a safe learning environment -- learn how to lay down the law without stepping out of line.

Understanding Dealing with Difficult Parents -- Wednesdays, 6:15 - 7:30 -- Instructed by: Dr. Jon Jay

Sometimes parents can be a real handful. How can you deal with parents without breaking their trust or making things even worse. Dr. Jay is a parent himself, and he knows the struggles of raising a child firsthand. Dr. Jay's research focuses on parental studies, and this class will focus on how to diffuse confrontations with parents on sensitive issues regarding their child's performance and behavior.

All classes will be held in the district office seminar room! Ask at the desk for assistance or follow the signs. All classes are free for teachers.
